Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
John 1.46
“And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see”.
The ministry of Jesus was in the beginning, it was time the call of the disciples. The gospel of John chapter already has one Jesus Christ speaking to some men and inviting them to be with him and be his disciples.
The Bible does not state it may be that Jesus has received some negative responses or that some have turned their backs on him, but the word of God brings the name of those who heard the call and then set out to follow the master.
But at the end of the first chapter we see that Philip, after answering the call of Jesus, goeslooking for his brother Nathaniel. When you find Philip declares his happy soul: "We have foundthe Messiah! - A person of whom Moses and the prophets have spoken! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph of Nazareth. "
Everything was going well with the declaration of Philip. At the time the Jews longed for the arrival of the Messiah and now Philip's stating that he had found. Nathaniel's heart must have beatenstronger. This Messiah was, according to Philip, the same of whom Moses and the prophets had spoken. But Philip is the revelation that was the basis for the confession of doubt from his brother, was the Messiah of Nazareth.
Nazareth was a region despised by the Jews. No wonder the amazement of Nathaniel.
Today, more than two thousand years later, we continue to make the same statement of Philip, we have found the Messiah! But many in the turn back with the same question: Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
At this point, we lack the courage to declare as Philip, come and see.
Nathanael's question still remains, but is that even two thousand years of Christianity have not served to change anything in the world? Could it be that the life of that son of a carpenter of Nazareth really deserves some kind of consideration?
The question still echoes.
The question still causes discomfort. But Philip's response is more than enough. Come and see.
Come and see the rock that remains unshaken.
Come and see the flame that could remove some tyrant.
Come and see the passion that no oppression subdued.
Come and see the many hospitals and orphanages have been built around the world, next to the ruins that crumbled humanism and atheism.
Come and see what Christ did.
Come and see today's life that gave up everything to serve this carpenter's son, remaining faithfulto Him until types of horrendous face death rather than deny knowing him.
Come see the cities and the lives of many murderers and criminals completely transformed afteran encounter with the Messiah.
Come and see how many prostitutes are no longer standing on street corners selling their bodies, but now live a holy life after they see this same Messiah.
Come and see how many marriages rebuilt, homes that once lived in war and now feel deeppeace simply because they have found the Messiah that the prophets have spoken well.
Can even anything good come from Nazareth?
Come and see the hand torn by the nails that still wipes tears of sad faces and touches heartstorn by the joy of receiving forgiveness for the sins they committed.
Come and see.
Travel through the jungle and hears the sound of drums now praise the name of the Messiah.Come by arrests and tries to understand why men whose bodies are arrested, are now happybecause they have a spirit freed after meeting with this Messiah.
Can really see something good out of Nazareth?
Come and see the empty tomb. The tomb which received the body of the Messiah who wasnailed to the cross no longer has any occupant and the door is written: He is not here.
Many try to take down the message of the Messiah's life, fancy formulate theories, but nobody can put out the flame of His love demonstrated on the cross and continues to burn in the hearts ofmany around the world. And many people continue to find the streets and declaring, found the Messiah.
And you? Nathaniel will continue asking how? Or will declare as he said, Master, thou art the Sonof God."
Think about.
See you!
