__ How many love I have shown
Luke 7:36-50
What do you think you love him more? This was an intriguing question that Jesus did Simon the Pharisee, in whose house he was invited to lunch. This episode begins in verse 36 and goes through verse 50. It begins with Jesus being invited to lunch at Simon's house and ends with Jesus forgives the sins of a prostitute because of the public demonstration of her love for the Master.
In this passage we must emphasize two points before we go to our main theme.
1 - Verse 36 says that Jesus asked Simon was having lunch at home - so Jesus accepted the invitation. God does this to us, never breaks down the door, do not enter into our lives uninvited. Revelation 3:20 declares, "Behold I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and opens the door I will come ..." God is no intruder. He will only come into your life if you are invited to enter.
2 - In verse 37 we see that a prostitute was told that Jesus would have lunch at the house of Simon - God loves when we do not shrink from the world to declare that we seek intimacy with him no matter who will know that I am a servant of God, my Lord enjoy my demonstration of interest in me closer to Him.
When this woman comes into the house of Simon the Pharisee, kneels behind Jesus, weeping until the Master's feet get wet with her tears, wiped Jesus' feet with her hair, kissed the feet of the Master and poured perfume on them. Can we learn anything from this? Consider:
1 - This woman does not care about the fact that Simon was a Pharisee, who sought to be a legalistic, appear to be very religious as she belonged to a rotten part of society.
2 - She kneels at the feet of Jesus to acknowledge that Jesus was someone who deserved to be honored.
3 - She weeps bitterly in front of Jesus. Crying it was a sign that she recognized her state of sin to Christ and gave an apology for everything he had done in his past.
4 - She unties her hair in front of Jesus to wipe his feet. This is an act by which she could be killed, because a woman could never be untied hair on a man other than her husband, but she decides to take the risk to honor Jesus.
5 - She kisses the feet of Jesus demonstrated humility and acknowledging the Lordship of Christ in his life wholly given to sin.
6 - She anoint Jesus' feet. This act crowned every sign of her love for Jesus as if she were perfuming the own husband.
Seeing all this, Simon gets angry, do not think Jesus is a prophet and judge anything is better than the sinful woman and even Jesus. The Master then confronts the attitudes of women compared with Simon's own attitudes:
1 - Simon sits next to Jesus while the woman kneels at the feet of Jesus.
2 - Simon had not provided water for Jesus to wash his feet when he arrived at his house. This was a custom of the time. Not doing this, Simon showed he did not care so much about the guest.
3 - Simon did not kiss Jesus when he entered his house. With this act Simon demonstrate that Jesus was welcome to his house. But the woman kissed the feet of Jesus.
4 - Simon did not anoint Jesus with oil as was another practice, but the woman covered Christ's feet with perfume.
Is there any relationship between the attitudes of Simon with what we do today?
1 - We have sought the honor to sit down with Jesus and humbly we have placed on your knees?
2 - We shed our tears at the feet of Jesus in showing that we trust God to tell him all our sins and worries?
3 - We have kissed the feet of Christ, recognizing Him as Lord of our lives? We give up our wills to the will of the Father.
4 - We anointed our Lord Jesus as the only or accepted as our savior?
How is your demonstration of love? What have you done to show Jesus that you love him?
See you!
