Chapter 1 of the Gospel of Mark talks about the beginning of the ministry of John the Baptist and also about Jesus.
When we look at the message content of these two preachers, we see that John the Baptist appeared, as if from nowhere, preaching repentance and remission of sins. Jesus, after 40 days in the wilderness, preaching repentance appears as an initial step for that if I believed in the gospel, the good news of God's Kingdom.
Unfortunately most of today's preachers keeps away from this type of message. Repentance is a word that offends people. No pleasure that may tell you that you should change your mind, change your behavior.
Our preachers prefer messages about the great miracles of multiplication, on the great deliverance of God in the Old Testament about the victory or the blessing. These messages please most listeners than the brood of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, that John the Baptist preached to the religious of his time.
More and more we move away from the preaching of repentance and forget that without repentance there is no forgiveness without forgiveness there is not paradise, but a sad and dark fate in the lake of fire and brimstone.
When we look at the ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus, we see that both ended their days killed by his pursuers, perhaps for this reason, most preachers today prefer a message that causes less confrontational.
However, by being aware that my responsibility is to preach the good news of the gospel, which comes with great deal of need for repentance, I still cry, repent, because it is the kingdom of God. Repent, and who knows he have mercy on you and forgive you and wipe you from every defilement and make of you bastards and not sons. Repent. Repent.
