“Then Jerubbaal, who {is} Gideon, and all the people that {were} with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley. And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that {are} with thee {are} too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.”
Context:
1. Moses had died and there appeared the need for the people of Israel conquered the Promised Land.
2. Under the direction of Joshua they advanced and conquered much of the territory that God had sworn to give them.
3. But the word says that once people saw what the Lord reproves and therefore they were smitten by the Midianites.
In this scenario arises Gideon, whom the Lord himself calls mighty man of valor.
Characteristics that we perceive in Gideon
1. Intelligence - worked out wheat in a grape press to hide it from enemy tank.
2. Satisfied with the situation - Judges 6:13 - If the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened?
3. Knowledgeable of the history and power of God - Judges 6:13
4. Gideon was seen with human eyes - Judges 6:15 - How can I deliver Israel?
Gideon gathers an army and will fight against the enemy. Gathered all the people who could, and the more people the better, he thought.
Differences between our thinking and the way of God:
1. Too many people do not serve because they would think that was for his strength who won the battle, but God will not share His glory with anyone.
2. Afraid not intended for battle.
3. Puppies are not intended for battle - that position they saw only what interested them: water. Others carried water to his mouth, saw what was around them. STAY ALERT.
Judges 7:22 - They blew trumpets - that they have not won the battle. Despite their small number, they were the victors. The enemy was defeated only by a trumpeting. God wanted to show them that if they trusted and depended entirely him, no enemy would be strong enough to beat them.
Be ready in season and out of season to preach the word, to do the will of God, to be used by God. It may be that the Lord calls you to a great work and you should be ready.
The disciples gave up studying the word and teaching to stay taking care of other activities. Therefore you should also prepare by studying the Scriptures and having an intimate relationship with God.
Paul tells Timothy to be a man who correctly handles the word of truth.
Não se desvie do caminho, nem para a direita, nem para a esquerda.
Many will leave you along the way, these are the fearful and those who do not watch.
Do not worry if you seem to be few. One with God is majority.
See you!
